BLOG POST: Rougarou play first series against Cane Cutters

06/17/2019 12:50 AM -

The Rougarou have not had many off days lately and have been improving more and more with every game they play and the several new additions they have gotten over the last week. The Rougarou started off the past week a little shaky dropping 2 games to the Bombers in Bryan, Texas, neither of which were in reach late in the games. The Rougarou did add University of Hawaii outfielder Scotty Scott during the road trip to play the Bombers which has given the Rougarou a new lead-off hitter in Scott.

The Rougarou returned to Baton Rouge on Wednesday to take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters for the first game of their 2 game home series with several players making their home debut at Pete Goldsby Field like Scotty Scott and Drew Bianco. The Rougarou took an early lead against the Cane Cutters when Drew Bianco hit a 3 run home run to give the Rougarou a 3-0 after 2 innings. The Rougarou extended their lead to 6-0 in the third inning after scoring on an error by the Cane Cutters and an RBI single by Kalun Dronette scoring 2 runs. The Rougarou scored 2 runs in the fifth inning on a duo of base hit RBIs by Logan Lejeune and Johnny Johnson. This put the Rougarou up 8-0 and the Rougarou held onto their lead winning 8-3 against their rival the Cane Cutters. The Rougarou could not come away with the win against the Cane Cutters the following night losing 10-3 to the Cane Cutters in the last game of the two game home series.

Victoria, Texas was the next stop for the Rougarou to play the Victoria Generals in a two game road series. The Rougarou could not come away with the win in either of the two games against the Generals on Friday and Saturday night losing 11-3 in the first game and losing 8-2 in the second game.

The Rougarou returned to Pete Goldsby Field on Sunday night to take on the Cane Cutters again at home for the first game of the two game home series against the Cane Cutters. Despite leading 2-0 for the majority of the game, the Rougarou let the Cane Cutters back into the game with an offensive surge in the last few innings and the Cane Cutters won 3-2.
