Baton Rouge, LA – June 16, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou took on the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Service Industry Night on Sunday in the first game of its 2 game home series against the Cane Cutters. Despite leading for the majority of the game, the Rougarou lost to the Cane Cutters in a close 3-2 game after a late game offensive surge by the Cane Cutters.
The Rougarou and Cane Cutters both got off to a slow start going scoreless through 2 innings. In the bottom of the third inning, Kalun Dronette scored on an RBI by Brennan Lambert to give the Rougarou a 1-0 after 3 innings. The Rougarou left runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth inning, but still led 1-0 after 5 innings.
Logan Lejeune scored on a balk by the Cane Cutters pitcher in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the Rougarou lead to 2-0 after 6 innings. The Cane Cutters scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game up 2-2. The Cane Cutters scored another run in the top of the eighth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Rougarou were not able to score again and fell to the Cane Cutters 3-2.
Kalun Dronette had an impressive hitting performance on Sunday night going 2-4 with two singles. Carson Clowers was lights out from the mound in the ninth inning giving up no runs and no hits.
The Rougarou will return to action at Pete Goldsby Field on Monday night against the Cane Cutters. That will be the last game of their 2 game home series against the Cane Cutters before they have 2 days off.
