Baton Rouge, LA – June 22, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou took on the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Saturday night in Lafayette for the first game of their two game road series against the Cane Cutters. The Rougarou were looking to start off their long road stretch with a win and fired from all cylinders on Saturday night.
Zach Fordham took the mound for the Rougarou against the Cane Cutters and pitched five innings with five strikeouts, no runs, and no hits. The Rougarou got out to an early lead in the top of the third inning after Brennan Lambert, Logan LeJeune, Drew Bianco, and Trevor Rugg had four straight hits to score two runs and Kalun Dronette had a sacrifice fly to score the third run of the inning.
Austin Haensel came into pitch in the sixth inning and pitched four scoreless and hitless innings with four strikeouts. Trevor Rugg led off the top of the 8th inning with a double and scored on a single by Johnny Johnson. This extended the Rougarou lead to 4-0 after eight innings.
The Rougarou held onto their comfortable lead and beat the Cane Cutters 4-0. The combined no-hitter by Fordham and Haensel was the first ever no-hitter in Rougarou history. Brayden Morrow had an impressive hitting performance going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
The Rougarou play the Cane Cutters again on Sunday night in Lafayette for the last game of their two game road series against the Cane Cutters before they travel to Bryan, Texas to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers on Monday night.
