Late game rally puts Rougarou over the top against Cane Cutters

Lafayette, LA. – June 26, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou traveled to Lafayette to take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Wednesday night for the first game of its two-game set against the Cane Cutters. After trailing the Cane Cutters for the majority of the game, the Rougarou would not give up and began one of the best comebacks they’ve had this season.

The Cane Cutters took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kyle Flettrich came in to pitch in the second inning and got the Rougarou out of the inning. The Cane Cutters extended its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo home run.

The Rougarou got on the board in the top of the sixth inning after Kalun Dronette led off with a single and soon after Brayden Morrow drove him home on an RBI triple. Morrow later scored on a wild pitch to score the second run of the inning for the Rougarou cutting the Cane Cutters lead to 4-2 after six innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Rougarou struck again after Cameron Crawford, Dronette, and Carson Clowers loaded the bases and Brayden Morrow hit a two-RBI double scoring Crawford and Dronette to tie the game 4-4. Clowers then gave the Rougarou its first lead of the game scoring on a wild pitch and making the score 5-4, in favor of the Rougarou. Brennan Lambert followed with an RBI single scoring Morrow to extend their lead to 6-4 after seven innings.

Clowers scored again for the Rougarou in the top of the ninth inning on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 7-4. Luke Baley came in to pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning and retired the side to close it out for the Rougarou and get the 7-4 win.

There were several impressive hitting performances for the Rougarou on Wednesday night including Morrow going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Austin Haensel was lights out from the mound pitching two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth and striking out four batters.

The Rougarou play the Cane Cutters again on Thursday night in Lafayette for the second game of its two-game set against the Cane Cutters before having a two-day break. After the two-day break, the Rougarou will be back in action at Pete Goldsby Field on Sunday night to play the Texarkana Twins on Bark in the Park Night powered by Lark Baton Rouge.
