Baton Rouge, LA – June 4, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou took the lead early on in the first game of a two game series at the Brazos Valley Bombers. The Bombers’ home opener had to wait a few extra minutes as the start time was delayed until 7:30 P.M. due to heavy rain. The rain lightened up and the game proceeded as scheduled. However, it continued to fall all throughout the game.
After losing the last two games to the Bombers, the Rougarou were looking to strike back. Things looked promising in the beginning. Baton Rouge took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Kalun Dronette led off with a walk. Reid Baty followed with a single and then Bo Barrilleaux grounded out to the second baseman which moved the runners over to third and second. Carson Clowers came up to hit a single and bring Dronette home.
Daxton Tinker took the mound for the Rougarou. He was brilliant in the beginning as he struck out five batters over the first three innings and only allowed one base runner. Sadly, the Bombers responded strongly. They scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth from six hits, two walks and two hit batters. Another run was added in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 11-1, and it remained that way for the rest of the game.
Dronette finished 1-3 with a run while Clowers went 1-3 with an RBI. Baty also went 1-3 with a stolen base. Luke Baley came in to pitch in the seventh inning and was solid pitching two innings and allowing no runs, one hit and struck out two.
The Rougarou will look to capture their first win tomorrow against the Bombers in their final game before their first two-game break of the season.
