Baton Rouge, LA – April 18, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou announced on Wednesday that a trio from the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in pitcher Ashton Davis, utility player Shea Gutierrez, and pitcher Jeremy Thompson have been signed for the 2019 season.
“We are very excited about our Cardinals,” Rougarou Manager Thomas Simoneaux said. “UIW has had a great year, getting experienced players from that program right now is a very good thing for the Rougarou.”
Ashton Davis, a native of Pflugerville, TX, is a freshman at UIW. He played his high school baseball with Pflugerville High School and also played with Marucci Elite. Davis was named a Preseason All-American in the Texas Region by Perfect Game and was named to the 2017 WWBA South Qualifier and 2018 Grads or 17U National Championship All-Tournament Teams.
Shea Gutierrez, also from Pflugerville, is in his sophomore season with UIW. He has appeared in 31 games, starting in 26 of them and has collected 21 hits with eight RBI and 11 runs scored. Last season, Gutierrez played in 35 games and started in 23 of them. He recorded 26 hits, scored 27 runs while driving in 14 RBI. Gutierrez had a .378 slugging percentage with five doubles and three triples.
Jeremy Thompson, the native of Boerne, TX, is also in his freshman season with UIW. He played his senior season at Champion High School where he posted a 0.94 ERA with 64 strikeouts and seven wins.
