The rain finally went away and the Baton Rouge Rougarou came out to play Friday night, taking a 7-0 win in seven innings over the Seguin River Monsters at Pete Goldsby Field. The Rougarou had not gotten to play since Tuesday night’s 5-5 tie against the Victoria Generals due to rain.
The Rougarou made rather quick work of the River Monsters, scoring seven runs over the first four innings while holding the visitors two hits in the game.
Jaden Brasseaux (4-2), who has been the ace of the Rougarou staff this summer, had another outstanding outing. He threw six innings, allowing just two singles, walked one and struck out four. Ethan Brister allowed no hits, and struck out one in his one inning of work.
The Roux needed only five hits to dispatch the River Monsters. Brennan Holt and Derrald Moore both knocked triples in the fourth inning. Brennan Lambert hit an RBI double in the third. The Rougarou also was helped by six walks from River Monster pitchers.
Holt led off the bottom of the first with a walk and Elliot Hebert singled to drive him home. Hebert scored on a groundout by Lane Hutchinson.
In the second inning, Ethan Menard singled and stole second. Brayden Caskey walked and Holt walked to load the bases. Another walk to Cameron Yadon sent Menard home and gave the Rougarou a 3-0 lead.
Hutchinson walked to lead off the third inning and advanced to third on Lambert’s double. Both runners would score on wild pitches to make it 5-0.
The Rougarou capped their scoring in the fourth when Moore led off with a triple and scored on Holt’s triple. Holt would score on a sacrifice fly by Hutchinson.
The Rougarou will face the River Monsters again Saturday at 6 p.m. at Pete Goldsby Field. They will close out the homestand on Sunday against the Brazos Valley Bombers at 7 p.m.
