BATON ROUGE, La. – The Rougarou turned their attention from the Bombers to the Amarillo Sod Squad with their sights set on notching a little measure of revenge against their opponent who had gotten the better of them to begin the season.

Baton Rouge would do just that, rallying from behind in a pitcher’s duel to top the Sod Squad by a score of 2-1.

Both starters, Grant Fontenot (McNeese State) for the Rougarou, and Triston Dixon of the Sod Squad would go back and forth trading scoreless innings, until finally it was Amarillo who struck first off of a Cam Mahaffy single in the fourth inning to put the visitors up 1-0.

Baton Rouge wouldn’t take long to answer back, as they came to the plate in the fifth inning due to break out of their proverbial shell. After the inning looked like it would go rather quickly following two outs, Andrew Guidry (University of New Orleans) drew a walk to keep the inning alive for Gabe Spedale (LSU-Eunice) who lined a single to right center and set up men on the corners for Nick Cupp-Allen (Chandler Gilbert CC).

After being ahead in the count 3-0, back to back trikes would fill it up 3-2, and on the payoff pitch, Cupp-Allen would rocket a fly ball down into the right field corner that would score both runners and give the Rougarou the lead for good.

The bullpen would come on in the late innings and for the third consecutive night were fantastic, as Ethan Brister (Nunez CC), Steve Medrano (Tenessee Tech), and Gage Bihm (Hinds CC) would combine for four shutout innings allowing just one hit.

Baton Rouge improved to 5-6 overall with the victory, upping their win streak to four games as they head on the road for a pair in Victoria before a weekend off. The Rougarou are on the road in Victoria for a two-game set on June 18th and 19th before heading to Acadiana to take on the Cane Cutters on June 22.
