The Baton Rouge Rougarou hoped Saturday’s first meeting against the Brazos Valley Bombers would bring a little change of fortune. But, there was no such luck.
The Bombers held off the Rougarou for a 7-2 win at Travis Field, handing the Roux its fourth straight loss.
The Bombers jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second inning before the Rougarou rallied for two runs in the third. Baton Rouge’s 2-1 lead was short-lived, though. The Bombers scored three runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and added one in the eighth.
The Rougarou were held to six hits by four Bombers pitchers, who combined to strike out 12. Derrald Moore Jr. went 2-for-4 as did Elliot Hebert. Monray Van der Walt, making his third appearance, hit a 2-run double.
Austin, Texas native Cage Chaney got the start for the Rougarou and took the loss. He threw five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out 4. Grayson Gates pitched three innings, giving up one run on one hit, walking one and striking out two.
The Rougarou will take on the Bombers again Sunday at 7 p.m. at Travis Field.
