Victoria, TX. – July 6, 2019 – The Rougarou played in the last game of its two-game road series against the Victoria Generals on Saturday night before traveling back to Baton Rouge. A hot start by the Generals gave them a comfortable lead and were able to hang on to beat the Rougarou 6-1.
The Generals struck early with one run in the bottom of the first inning to give them a 1-0 lead. Brennan Lambert came up to bat with one out in the top of the second inning and hit a double in his first at bat of the game, but the Generals were able to get out of the top half of the second with no runs scored. Rougarou starting pitcher Zach Fordham pitched a scoreless second inning and the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Generals after two innings.
The Generals scored one run in the bottom of the third inning extending their lead to 2-0 after three innings. Another three runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Generals, but their rally was stopped after a diving catch and a runner thrown out at home by Drew Bianco. The Generals led 5-0 after five innings.
No runs were scored in the sixth and seventh inning for either teams and after seven innings, the score remained 5-0 in favor of the Generals. The Generals scored one run in the bottom of the eighth to increase their lead to 6-0 going into the ninth inning.
The Rougarou were able to put together a rally in the top of the ninth that started by Lambert getting hit by a pitch with one out. Three at bats later, Lambert scored on an RBI by Cameron Crawford to cut the Generals lead to 6-1. The Generals got out of the ninth with only one run scored and beat the Rougarou 6-1.
Guillaume Beaudry pitched one scoreless inning in the bottom of the sixth and Brooks Southall pitched another scoreless inning in the bottom of the seventh giving up no hits.
The Rougarou will travel back to Baton Rouge for a two-day break before playing the Texarkana Twins in a two-game road series in Texarkana starting on Tuesday. After that, the Rougarou continue on the road playing in Lafayette against the Cane Cutters in a two-game road series that starts on Thursday.
