Rougarou get off to hot start in loss to Twins

Texarkana, TX. – July 9, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou traveled to Texarkana on Tuesday night for the first game of its two-game road set against the Texarkana Twins. Despite getting off to a hot start, the Rougarou could not stop the Twins scoring barrage and fell to the Twins 11-3.  

Johnny Johnson got the Rougarou started on Tuesday night with a lead-off double in the top of the first inning. Johnson scored a couple of at bats later on an RBI single by Logan LeJeune to give the Rougarou a 1-0 lead. The Twins took the lead in the bottom of the first scoring three runs and making it 3-1 after one inning.  

Starting pitcher Jackson Cullen pitched a scoreless bottom of the second for the Rougarou as the score remained 3-1 in favor of the Twins after two innings. The Twins extended their lead 4-1 in the bottom of the third after one run scored. The Rougarou remained scoreless in the fourth inning and the Twins scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 8-1.  

The Twins scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning extending their lead to 9-1. Reid Baty came in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning and pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning.  

The Rougarou’s bats came alive in the top of eighth inning when Scotty Scott led off with a base hit and Baty got on base with a walk. Drew Bianco soon followed with an RBI single scoring Scott and Baty and cutting the Twins lead to 9-3 going into the bottom of the eighth.  

The Twins struck again in the bottom of eighth scoring two runs and increasing its lead to 11-3. The Rougarou went scoreless in the top of the ninth and fell to the twins 11-3. Lukas Polanco had an impressive hitting performance on Tuesday night going 2-for-4 with two singles. Baty pitched three innings giving up only four hits and striking out three batters.  

The Rougarou play the Twins again on Wednesday night in the last game of its two-game road series against the Twins. After that, the Rougarou travel to Lafayette on Thursday to take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters in a two-game road set.
