After short rain delay, Rougarou fall to Cane Cutters

Youngsville, LA. – July 11, 2019 – The Baton Rougarou continued its road series traveling to Lafayette on Thursday night to take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters. After a nearly one-hour rain delay, the Rougarou couldn’t contain the Cane Cutters’ offensive surge and fell 10-2.  

The Cane Cutters got off to an early lead with a single, a double, and a triple that pushed across three runs to give them a 3-0 lead after one inning.  

In the top of the second inning, Trevor Rugg scored on an RBI by Brennan Lambert to give the Rougarou its first run of the game and cut the Cane Cutters lead 3-1. The Cane Cutters struck back in the bottom of the second with one run and extended its lead 4-1.  

Rougarou starter pitcher Cortylnn Ramirez pitched a scoreless bottom of the third inning striking out two batters and the score remained 4-1 after three.  

After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, Bryan Aguilar led off the top of the fifth inning with a double in his second at bat with the Rougarou. Johnny Johnson followed with an RBI single scoring Aguilar and cutting the Cane Cutters lead 4-2. The Cane Cutters struck back in the bottom of the fifth scoring five runs, giving them a 9-2 lead after five innings.  

Austin Haensel pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Rougarou and after six innings, the Cane Cutters still led 9-2. Another run for the Cane Cutters scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to increase their lead 10-2 after seven.  

Kyle Flettrich did not allow a base runner and shut out the Cane Cutters in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Rougarou could not get anything going in the ninth inning and fell to the Cane Cutters 10-2. Lambert shined for the Rougarou in Thursday night’s loss with one hit and an RBI.  

The Rougarou continue its two-game road set against the Cane Cutters on Friday night before heading back to Baton Rouge to play the Victoria Generals at home on Saturday night.
