Bryan, Texas – July 19, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou took on the Brazos Valley Bombers on Friday night in the first game of its two-game road series against the Bombers. The game went back and forth for the first few innings, but after the Bombers took the lead in the fifth inning, they never relinquished that lead and went on to win 12-7.
The Bombers took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning scoring one run on two hits to make it 1-0. In the top of the second inning, Alex Galy hit a single up the middle and soon after scored on a double by Scotty Scott that tied the game up 1-1. Lukas Polanco and Scott both scored one at bat later on a double down the left field line by Drew Bianco giving the Rougarou a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the second.
The Bombers scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and took a 4-3 lead. The Bombers scored another run on a solo home run in the bottom of the third that gave the Bombers a 5-3 lead going into the fourth.
Bryan Aguilar led off the fourth inning with a double down the third base line and scored on a double off the center field fence by Polanco cutting the Bombers lead to 5-4. Bianco came up to bat soon after and hit a single that scored Polanco and tied the game up 5-5. Bianco scored a couple of plays later on a wild pitch giving the Rougarou a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.
Rougarou starting pitcher Jacob Snyder retired the side with two strikeouts in the bottom of the fourth and the Rougarou still lead 6-5. The Bombers added three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and the Rougarou trailed 8-6 going into the sixth. After a scoreless top of the sixth inning, Logan LeJeune came in to pitch for the Rougarou in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bombers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and took a 12-6 lead after six innings. LeJeune pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the Rougarou, but still trailed 12-6 after seven. Brennan Lambert came in to pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning and pitched a scoreless inning highlighted by Guillaume Beaudry’s amazing diving catch in right field to get the final out in the eighth.
The Rougarou scored one run in the top of the ninth on an RBI by Polanco that scored Aguilar and cut the Bombers lead to 12-7. The Rougarou could not get anything else going in the ninth inning and fell to the Bombers 12-7. Bianco shined on Friday night going 3-for-3 with two base hits, and a double.
The Rougarou play the Bombers again on Saturday night in Brazos Valley in the last game of its two-game road set against the Bombers. After that, the Rougarou travel to Texarkana to take on the Twins in a two-game road set before returning to Baton Rouge.
