Bryan, TX. – July 20, 2019 – The Baton Rouge Rougarou took on the Brazos Valley Bombers on Saturday night in the last game of its two-game road set against the Bombers. The Rougarou started out sharp defensively, but fell into a hole later in the game and lost to the Bombers 4-0.
Brooks Southall took the mound for the Rougarou on Saturday night and pitched a scoreless first inning with the game tied at zero going into the second. Reid Baty, Lukas Polanco, and Alex Galy loaded the bases for the Rougarou in the top of the second, but the Bombers were able to escape the inning with no runs allowed.
Southall pitched another couple scoreless inning in the bottom of the second and third and after three innings, the game remained tied at zero going into the fourth inning. The Bombers took its first lead of the game scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly ball and led 1-0 after four innings.
The Bombers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning extending its lead 3-0. Guillaume Beaudry came in to pitch in the bottom of the fifth to get the Rougarou out of the inning. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Bombers still led 3-0 going into the seventh inning.
Luke Baley came in to pitch for the Rougarou in the bottom of the seventh and did not allow the Bombers to score, but the Bombers still led 3-0 after seven. The Bombers scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning and led 4-0 going into the ninth.
Brennan Lambert got on base on a single in the top of the ninth advancing Trevor Rugg to second base, but the Rougarou could not get much else going in the ninth and fell to the Bombers 4-0. Beaudry was impressive from the mound on Saturday night giving up no runs and only one hit.
The Rougarou travel to Texarkana to take on the Twins on Sunday night in the first game of its two-game road set against the Twins. After that, the Rougarou return home to Baton Rouge to face the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
