Baton Rouge Announces First Signing to 2021 Roster!

BATON ROUGE, La. – Although the start of the Baton Rouge Rougarou’s 2021 Texas Collegiate League season is still almost four months away, the team is busy putting together a roster that will challenge for, and hopefully bring home, the TCL Championship later this summer. To that end, the Rougarou announced today the signing of Southern University (Baton Rouge, La.) infielder Zavier Moore.

Moore, who hails from Shreveport, La. and attended C.E. Byrd High School, will be entering his junior season at SU this spring and is a three-year starter for the Jaguars. During the 2020 shortened season he started 15 of 16 games for the Jags and hit .246 with one home run and 8 RBI. He posted a .737 OPS collecting 14 hits and 8 walks in 57 at-bats and was a perfect 5-5 in stolen bases.

A TCL veteran of the last 3 seasons, Moore rejoins field manager Ricky VanAsselberg to play for the only skipper he has had during summer ball (Texas Marshals in 2018; Acadiana Cane Cutters in 2019 & 2020). This past summer, Moore hit .239 with a homer and 13 RBI in 24 games. He collected four doubles in his 22 hits, scored 16 runs and went 4-for-4 in stolen bases.

The Baton Rouge Rougarou will release their 2021 TCL schedule in the coming weeks. Please check back at the team’s official website www.brrougarou.com for any other off-season news as it develops.
