Rougarou Add Two from Oakland U!

OF/LHP Cooper Donlin and C Brandon Heidal sign with Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – With a little more than two months before the Baton Rouge Rougarou’s 2021 Opening Day, the team announced the additions of Oakland University’s outfielder/left-handed pitcher Cooper Donlin and catcher Brandon Heidal. The pair join Golden Grizzlies teammates Jacob Schellpfeffer and Reagan Paulina as Rougarou, both of which were announced last month.

Donlin, a freshman from Plymouth, Mich., attended Detroit Catholic Central High School where he starred with his current OU, and now Rougarou teammate, Paulina. A Rawlings Pre-Season All-American for all three seasons in high school, Donlin helped lead Detroit Catholic to both District and Regional Championships in 2019, being named All-Conference and All-Catholic League as an outfielder. Although his senior season in high school was cancelled due to the pandemic, he was a 2020 Michigan High School Baseball All Star Game selection. Donlin has not seen any action in the outfield this season, but he has toed the rubber for the 7-8 Grizzlies, appearing in four games, all in relief, going 3.2 innings and allowing five hits, four runs with three strikeouts.

Heidal hails from Anaheim, Calif., where he attended Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif. A three-year letterman in high school, the 5’10”, 211-pound backstop helped lead Orange Lutheran to a 25-8 record and National High School Invitational Tournament title in 2018 along with a Trinity League title in 2019, hitting .333 that season. This season with the Grizzlies, Heidal has appeared in eight games with five starts behind the dish and has two hits with two runs scored and three walks. Defensively, the freshman has flashed his arm strength throwing out four of the seven would-be base stealers against him and is also sporting a 1.000 fielding percentage with 35 putouts and six assists in 41 total chances.
