BATON ROUGE, La. – With the start of the 2021 Texas Collegiate League season just under two months
away, the team remains busy adding talent to its roster. Today the club announced the signings of outfielder
Tate Peterson and right-handed pitcher Joshua Gentile.
Peterson, a freshman at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Mich., is tearing it up during his initial
collegiate season. In 20 games with the Bruins, ranked 8 th nationally in NJCAA Division II, the left-handed
swinging outfielder from Grandville, Mich. leads his team in most offensive categories, hitting at a .429 clip
with six home runs and 22 RBI. He has collected 33 hits in 77 at-bats with 30 runs scored and swiped 11 bases
in 13 attempts. He carries a .522 on-base percentage and .714 slugging percentage, equaling an outstanding
1.236 OPS. Peterson ranks in the top 100 nationally in batting average (42 nd ), home runs (55 th ), runs scored
(67 th ), on-base percentage (62 nd ), slugging percentage (71 st ), hits (91 st ), total bases (93 rd ) and stolen bases (90 th ).
Peterson joins his KCC teammate Al Thorington with the Rougarou this summer, who was announced earlier
Gentile comes to the Rougarou via San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Calif. The 6’2”, 210-pound
freshman right-hander prepped at Lincoln High School, also of Stockton, where he was a 1 st Team All-
Conference performer his junior year. In his senior year at LHS he appeared in one game on the hill, throwing
four shutout innings before the rest of their season was cancelled due to the pandemic. SJDC baseball is
considered to be one of, if not the best, junior college programs in the state. Last season 19 Mustang players
transferred to D-I schools, and another 14 have already committed for this year. Due to lingering pandemic
concerns and the composition of their roster, SJDC elected to opt out of their 2021 Big 8 Conference season and
instead have intrasquad scrimmages. In those games, Gentile has thrown 12 innings allowing 7 hits, 1 run, with
11 strikeouts and just 2 walks.
The Baton Rouge Rougarou open the 2021 season on June 1 with a 4-game roadtrip to Texas to face both the
Amarillo Sod Squad and Brazos Valley Bombers. The Rougarou home opener will be June 5 versus the Victoria
Generals. Please check back at the team’s official website www.brrougarou.com for any other off-season news
