BATON ROUGE, La. – First pitch is fast approaching, and the Rougarou are staying busy putting the finishing
touches on their 2021 roster with the signing of right-handed pitcher Grant Fontenot and first baseman/catcher
David Christoforo, Jr.
Fontenot, a 6’4” righty and Louisiana native, joins Baton Rouge after his freshman campaign at McNeese State,
where he made two appearances against Prairie View and LSU. In addition to being featured on the bump,
Fontenot would originally make a name for himself in the infield at Eunice (La.) High School, where he found
himself the No. 10 ranked shortstop and 59 th overall prospect in the state last year by Perfect Game and was also
an All State third baseman in 2019. The dual-threat could very well make an impact at Pete Goldsby in more
ways than one in 2021.
Christoforo will travel over 1,400 miles to play with the Rougarou this season, hailing from North Haven,
Conn. Originally having signed with the University of Connecticut, he left the program in favor of Southern
Connecticut State University before even having played a game for the Huskies. The first baseman/catcher is an
imposing figure, standing at 6’7” and will likely be seen at multiple positions during the 2021 season. The
North Haven High graduate also used his height to his advantage on the hardwood but ultimately chose to
pursue baseball. Christoforo would help his high school squad reach the Class L State Tournament, and he even
belted a walk-off homerun during their playoff run.
The Baton Rouge Rougarou open the 2021 season on June 1 with a 4-game roadtrip to Texas to face both the
Amarillo Sod Squad and Brazos Valley Bombers in 2-game sets. The Rougarou home opener will be Saturday,
June 5 at Pete Goldsby Field versus the Victoria Generals. Please check back at the team’s official website
