The Baton Rouge Rougarou took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, added a run in the fourth, then had to fend off a River Monsters rally to take a 4-3 victory Monday night at Seguin. The Rougarou return to Baton Rouge for Tuesday’s home-opener against the Victoria Generals with a record of 4-2 after its first road trip of the season.
The Rougarou knocked only six hits in the victory, but they were helped by 13 walks and two hit batters. All but two batters got a free pass to first in the game; five batters walked twice.
Elliot Hebert continued with the hot bat, going 2-for-5 with one RBI. John Taylor drove in two runs with a double in the first inning. Peyton Seybrandt also drove in a run.
Right-handed pitcher Jaden Brasseaux got the win, throwing five innings. He allowed three runs, two of them earned, on five hits and struck out one.
First-pitch for Tuesday’s home opener against the Victoria Generals on Tuesday is at 7 p.m. at Goldsby Field. Tickets at $8 for adults, $5 for children 14 and under.
