The Seguin River Monsters roughed up the Rougarou Sunday night, knocking 15 hits on the way to an 8-2 win at Pete Goldsby Field.

The Rougarou managed only six hits against two solid Monsters pitchers – Michael Quevedo, who allowed three hits through seven innings and five in eight innings and struck out eight, and closer Tyland Lackey.

Baton Rouge’s Banks Byers went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Derrald Moore Jr., T.J. Grines, Mozell Little III and Davis Meche also had singles.

The Rougarou were held scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when they got two hits and were aided by an error, a walk, and a wild pitch. Moore led off the inning with a single and stole second. He went to third on an error by the Seguin catcher. Payton Cooper walked then Little singled to score Moore. Cooper went to third on a fielder’s choice that got Little out at second. Cooper would score on a wild pitch.

But that was all the offense the Rougarou could round up.

Hunter Ponson got the start for the Rougarou, going 4 2-3 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out three. Hayden Oglesby gave up three runs on seven hits in 3 1-3 innings. Closer Ethan Brister pitched one hitless inning.

The Rougarou return to the road Monday to play the Victoria Generals. On Tuesday they will be at Brazos Valley and on Wednesday they travel to play the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The next home game will be Thursday night against Brazos Valley.
