The Baton Rouge Rougarou snatched its first win of the season Wednesday, beating the Seguin River Monsters 6-2.
The pitching staff was stellar in the victory, holding the River Monsters to six hits and collectively striking out 12. Jaden Brasseaux got the start, throwing 4 2/3 innings, giving up five hits striking out 6. Reliever Ethan Brister (2 1/2, 2 strikeouts) got the win. Collin Husser (1 inning, 3 strikeouts) and Christopher Tonna (1 inning, 1 strikeout) closed it out.
The Rougarou bats came to life on Wednesday, adding up nine hits, but waited until the fifth inning to get on the scoreboard. Trailing 1-0, the Rougarou scored 3 runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
With one out in the third, Derrald Moore walked but was out at second on Lane Hutchinson’s fielder’s choice. Elliot Hebert singled and Ethan Menard walked to load the bases. Hutchinson would score on a bases loaded walk to Landry Alligood. J.T. Taylor singled to score Hebert and Peyton Seybrandt walked to score Menard.
The Rougarou added three more runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory.
Hebert went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Taylor was 2-3.
The Rougarou and the River Monsters will meet again Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Smokey Joe Williams Field in Seguin.
