Just days after the Baton Rouge Rougarou’s pitchers threw a combined 1-hitter, the staff pitched a 2-hitter to shut out the Brazos Valley Bombers 9-0 Tuesday night at Pete Goldsby Field.
Starter Landry Alligood took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving up a single to the Bombers’ Vinny Saumuell. Jackson Cobb singled in the sixth, but that was all Alligood allowed, striking out nine and walking three in six innings. Hayden Oglesby pitched two hitless innings in relief and Ethan Brister closed with one walk and one strikeout in the ninth.
Meanwhile, the Rougarou rocked three Brazos Valley pitchers for 13 hits and took advantage of eight walks and three hit batters. Centerfielder Cameron Yadon went 5-for-5 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored. Shortstop Brennan Holt went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and walked twice. Brayden Caskey went 2-for-4, including a double, with one RBI and two runs scored. Landrey Wilkerson went 2-for-4 with a double.
After leaving runners stranded in the first and second innings, the Rougarou scored their first run in the third. Lane Hutchinson was hit by a pitch, Wilkerson singled and Hutchinson scored on a passed ball.
The Rougarou added two runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Samuel Plash led off with a single and Cameron Yadon followed with another. Plash advanced on a wild pitch then Brennan Holt singled to score Plash. Derrald Moore Jr. walked and Yadon scored on a sacrifice fly by Hutchinson.
Baton Rouge increased its lead to 6-0 in the fifth. Brennan Lambert led off with a walk and stole second before Caskey walked. Yadon singled to score Lambert. Caskey and Yadon scored on a single by Holt.
The Rougarou capped their scoring in the eighth. Caskey drove in two runs with a double that scored Lambert and Monray Van der Walt, who were hit by pitches. Caskey would score on a single by Holt.
Baton Rouge improved to 10-5-1 in the second half of the Texas Collegiate League season, with eight of those wins and the tie secured on the Rougarou’s homefield. Only two regular season home games remain (weather permitting) before the playoffs begin on Aug. 2. The Rougarou play the Bombers again Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Goldsby Field.
