The Baton Rouge Rougarou turned the tables on the Acadiana Cane Cutters Tuesday night.
A night after Acadiana turned a big first-inning lead into a win, the Rougarou did the same. Baton Rouge scored three runs in the first then added three in the sixth and one in the ninth to take a 7-1 win at Fabacher Field.
Payton Cooper pitched seven innings giving up just one run and four hits, walking two and striking out three. Jack Rector pitched the final two innings without giving up a run or a hit. He walked one.
The Rougarou pounded 10 hits on the way to this victory. University of Louisiana Lafayette outfielder Landrey Wilkerson went 2-for-4 with two runs score. Josh Shelly went 2-for-5. T.J. Grines drove in two runs and Banks Byers scored two runs.
Baton Rouge took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on three hits. Wilkerson led off with a single which was followed by singles by Lane Snow and Byers. Sully Stringer then drew the bases loaded walk for the first run. Snow scored on a groundout by Adamo Stornello. Grines grounded out for the second out but Stringer scored to make it 3-0 Rougarou.
The score remained 3-0 until the sixth inning when Byers reached base on an error and Stringer singled. The runners advanced on a passed ball before Stornello walked to load the bases. Byers scored on a sacrifice fly by Grines. Davis Meche singled to score Stringer. Shelly singled to load the bases. Mozelle Little III singled but Stornello was thrown out at home. Meche would score on a wild pitch.
After giving up one run in the bottom of the sixth, the Rougarou added one in the top of the ninth. With two out Wilkerson drew a walk, went to second on a wild pitch and scored before Snow was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double.
The Rougarou return home Wednesday to host the Seguin River Monsters at 7 p.m. Prior to the game the Rougarou will take on the Miracle League at Cypress Mounds at 6 p.m.
