Lori Lyons is a veteran sports reporter with more than 30 years of experience covering events throughout the state. She spent 26 years as a sports and news reporter at The Times-Picayune, winning numerous writing awards, including the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Prep Writer of the Year award in 1992 and 2004. Her primary beats were the River Parishes area of New Orleans and the New Orleans Zephyrs.
Since leaving The Times-Picayune in 2012, she has worked as a freelance writer for The Advocate, Crescent City Sports, River Parish Football and several other publications. She currently teaches Journalism and Multimedia at Riverside Academy in Reserve and is the advisor for The Rebel Express school news website. She also is The Voice of The Rebels baseball team.
Lori is married to Riverside Academy baseball coach Marty Luquet. Their daughter Lora Leigh Luquet is the Editor in Chief of The Current Sauce, the student newspaper at Northwestern State University. Lori also is the stepmother of Hahnville High School head football coach, Daniel Luquet, and Tulane Football’s Associate Director of Football Player Engagement and On-Campus Recruiting, Courtney Luquet.
