The Baton Rouge Rougarou traveled to Texas on Tuesday to face a brand new Texas Collegiate League opponent in the Sherman Shadowcats – and ran right into a wall.
In what was turned out to be a Tuesday night TCL pitchers' duel, the Shadowcats held the Rougarou to two hits on the way to a 4-0 victory.
Trip Dobson broke up the no-hitter with a single in the sixth. Jack Marcantel added a bloop single in the eighth. Besides that, there were only three walks and two hit batters and two batters reached errors. But, the Rougarou left nine stranded as Sherman’s pitchers struck out 10.
But Rougarou pitchers Wyatt Chenevert and Cowan Alphonso came close to matching up, holding the Shadowcats to five hits – one of those a 3-run home run by Donovan Arroyo in the bottom of the eighth inning. Until that point, Sherman had only one run on two hits thanks to a walk, an error and a single in the top of the first inning. Chenevert walked three and struck out six; Alphonso walked two and struck out eight.
