The Acadiana Cane Cutters scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to sneak past the Baton Rouge Rougarou 3-2 Thursday night at Fabacher Field in Youngsville.
The Rougarou led 2-0 after the third inning when Nicolas Schwing walked and scored on a groundout by Ty Simonelli and Bryson Jones singled, went to second on a sacrifice, took third on Simonelli's groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
The Cane Cutters cut that lead in half in the bottom of the fifth on one hit and a Rougarou error.
The Rougarou held onto their lead until the eighth when Acadiana got a pair of runs on one hit, two walks, two hit batters and a passed ball.
Acadiana’s pitchers held the Rougarou to five hits, walked seven and struck out 11. Dathan Cummings, Jack Marcantel, Hayes Hebert, Jones and Simonelli all had hits for the Rougarou. Simonelli had the only RBI.
Rougarou starter Thomas Collins threw five innings, allowing one run on one hit, walked one and struck out six. The Cane Cutters finished with seven hits, five walks and seven strike outs.
Both teams will return to Baton Rouge Friday night to play at Pete Goldsby Field at 7 p.m.
