Perhaps the Baton Rouge Rougarou should consider changing its name to the Cardiac Rougarou. This team keeps finding ways to win.

Saturday night the Rougarou went scoreless through seven innings and trailed the Acadiana Cane Cutters 1-0 after five. But with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Blaise Priester and Byron Robinson Jr. hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 1-1. Robinson then went to third on a wild pitch and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Nicholas Riggs.

The win improved the Rougarou to 8-2 on the season and extended its winning streak to five in a row (Friday night’s game was canceled due to weather).

The Rougarou finished with nine hits off of three Cane Cutters pitchers. Josh Shelly was the only Baton Rouge batter with two hits.

Trent Jordan was the starting pitcher for the Rougarou. He went five innings, giving up one run on six hits, walking two and striking out seven. Ezra Pate and Trey Flettrich each pitched two innings scoreless, hitless in relief, striking out five between them.

The Cane Cutters managed only one productive inning, scoring their lone run on three singles in the fifth inning.

"The fight in this team is insane," Rougarou coach Stephen Klein said. "Can't beat it. The pitching staff was great in every way and we scratched two wins to get the W."

The Rougarou will travel to Youngsville on Sunday to take on the Cane Cutters at 7 p.m.
