Mike Forbes -Head Coach
A Baton Rouge native and lifelong competitor, Forbes brings over two decades of experience as a player, teacher, and coach — all defined by integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
A 2000 graduate of Central High School, Forbes was a standout two-sport athlete, earning 5A All-State honors and being named Baton Rouge’s “Star of Stars” in baseball during his senior year. His playing career continued under two Louisiana coaching legends, Jay Artigues and Joe Scheurmann, whose mentorship helped shape his leadership philosophy.
Following a successful collegiate career at Bossier Parish Community College, Delgado Community College, and the University of New Orleans, Forbes went on to play professionally with the Winnipeg Goldeyes, St. Paul Saints, and Windy City Thunderbolts from 2004 to 2006.
Forbes transitioned seamlessly from the diamond to the dugout, becoming one of Louisiana’s most respected high school coaches. Over his coaching career, he has built programs defined by team unity, academic excellence, and community engagement.
His leadership has produced multiple championship runs, highlighted by:
2017 & 2018 5A State Championships
2017 LBCA, LSWA, USA Today, and Baton Rouge Metro Coach of the Year
2018 LBCA Coach of the Year & East All-Star Team Head Coach
2021 3A State Semifinal Appearance
Currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association (2018–2025), Forbes continues to influence the growth of the game across the state.
Beyond the field, Forbes is a dedicated educator with a passion for shaping young lives. Since earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans (2008) and his teaching certification (2012), he has taught and coached at schools including Silliman Institute, Central High School, Brusly High School, and Walker High School. His classroom philosophy mirrors his coaching approach — fostering learning, perseverance, and personal growth.
Michael and his wife Kari have been married for 14 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Brayden (20) and Tripp (13). Together, they embody the family values and community spirit that define the Baton Rouge baseball tradition.
As he takes the helm of the Baton Rouge Rougarou for the 2026 season, Coach Forbes brings a championship pedigree and a vision built on integrity, unity, and relentless pursuit of excellence. His blend of professional experience, player development expertise, and deep Louisiana roots make him the perfect leader to usher in the next chapter of Rougarou baseball.
