There were no late-inning heroics for the Baton Rouge Rougarou Tuesday night as they fell 3-1 to the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators at Joe Miller Ballpark.
The Gators (3-3) spotted the Rougarou (4-2) one run in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Dylan Champagne (his first of the season, the team’s third) but that was all Baton Rouge could muster.
The Gators scored two runs in the bottom of the frame on a triple and a sacrifice fly, then a solo home run by Jake Smith. They added one more in the seventh on a walk and a triple by Ayden Sunday.
The Rougarou got eight hits off of four Lake Charles Pitchers, who walked four and struck out eight. Champagne and Trip Dobson both got a pair of hits to lead Baton Rouge.
Texas Collegiate League pitcher of the week Diego Corrales got the start for Lake Charles and gave the game’s only run. He struck out three.
The Rougarou also sent four pitchers to the mound, holding the Gators to seven hits, walking four and striking out five.
The Rougarou and the Gators will meet for the sixth time this season – but the last time until the 27th – Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark.
