The Baton Rouge Rougarou fell behind early and never recovered in an 8-3 loss to the San Antonio River Monsters in Texas.
San Antonio scored one run in the second and added three runs in the third, including a 2-run homer by Hunter Ham, to put early pressure on the Rougarou.
The River Monsters finished with 11 hits. Rougarou pitchers Caleb Ougel, Garrett Walker and Carson Robb walked only two and struck out seven.
Baton Rouge scored two runs in the fourth and one in the seventh but that was all they could muster despite knocking 10 hits off of a pair of River Monster pitchers.
Leadoff man Dathan Cummings went 3-for-5 and Jacob Keys went 2-for-4 with the only RBI for a Rougarou player. Ty Simonelli hit a double in the fourth inning and scored on Keys’ single. Trip Dobson stole home to score the second run.
In the seventh inning, Haze McCorkel and Cummings singled, then McCorkel scored on a catcher’s throw that involved a few position players but ultimately took out Cummings at second.
The Rougarou (19-23) will play the River Monsters once again Friday night at 7 p.m.
