Rougarou close River Monsters series with 14-7 loss

The Baton Rouge Rougarou ended up on the wrong end of a 14-7 football score Friday night. The San Antonio River Monsters scored 14 runs on 10 hits while holding the Rougarou to a touchdown – seven runs on nine hits – to close out the series for the season.

The Rougarou fell to 19-23 on the season, 9-11 in the second half. The River Monsters are 22-17 on the season, 11-7 in the second half.

After spotting the Rougarou one run in the first inning, the River Monsters put together a seven-run second, then added three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the eighth. They were helped by three Baton Rouge errors.

The Rougarou scored two runs in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Ty Simonelli gave a good effort, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk and three RBIs. Dathan Cummings, Jacob Keys and Spencer Guilbeau all drove in Rougarou runs.

The pitching trio of Larson Fabre, Jimmie Johnson and Kaiden Broussard had a tough night, giving up 10 hits, 10 walks and hitting four batters. They collectively struck out 12, led by Johnson’s seven.

The Rougarou close out the regular season with games against the Brazos Valley Bombers Saturday and Sunday night at 7 p.m.
