There was no dramatic comeback for the Baton Rouge Rougarou Sunday night, but that's because they didn't need one.
The Rougarou put aside it's cardiac ways, taking an early lead and building it to a 7-1 win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Fabacher Field in Youngsville.
The win improved the Rougarou's record to 9-2 and extended the team's win streak to six games in a row. The team will take Monday off before traveling to Seguin to start a four-game road trip in Texas.
Baton Rouge knocked nine hits off of five Acadiana pitchers. Ben Robichaux had the big night at the plate, hitting a pair of doubles and driving in three runs. Josh Shelly had three hits and three RBIs. Taylor Walters scored three runs and Casey Artigues scored two.
The Rougarou pitching staff once again was solid, holding the Cane Cutters to one run on four hits, walking seven and striking out 15.
Starter Tanner Busby gave up the one run on three hits, walked four and struck out seven. Tristan Perry, Thomas Collins and Ira Austin pitched in relief, giving up just one hit and striking out eight more batters.
"It was a great win that we needed to move on this week," Rougarou coach Stephen Klein said. "I love the way this team plays the game and it's great in every way."
Baton Rouge struck first in the top of the second inning. With one out, Maddox King reached on an error then Grant Sawa singled to center field to score the run.
The Rougarou put up two more runs in the third inning when Walters drew a leadoff walk then Robichaux hit the first of his two doubles on the night. Robichaux would score on a single by Shelly.
Acadiana scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of hits to cut the lead to 3-1.
But the Rougarou struck again in the seventh inning. Artigues led off with a single to center field and went to second on a wild pitch. Taylor was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a fly out by Robichaux. Shelly then singled to score both runners, giving the Rougarou a 5-1 lead.
The Rougarou added two runs in the ninth inning when Artigues and Walters drew back-to-back walks and Robichaux drove them in with his second double of the night.
