The Baton Rouge Rougarou jumped out to a big lead but then had to fight off a late Acadiana rally to take a 12-10 win over the Cane Cutters Sunday night at Pete Goldsby Field.
The Rougarou scored seven runs in the opening frame and led 10-1 before the Cane Cutters sliced their way back into the game with three runs in the fifth, four in the seventh and one in the top of the eighth. By the time it was over the teams had combined for 22 runs, 25 hits, 12 walks and five errors.
Baton Rouge knocked 11 hits off of four Acadiana pitchers. Batting in the leadoff spot, left fielder Casey Artigues went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and his first home run of the season, a 2-run blast in the third inning. Trey Flettrich was the only other player with more than one hit in the game. Josh Shelly and Dalton Wilson both hit doubles. Wilson and Byron Robinson Jr. had two RBIs on the night.
Myles Green got the start on the mound, giving up three runs on five hits, walking two and striking out three in 4 1/3 innings. Ezra Pate, Garrett Walker and Jimmy Johnson all pitched in relief striking out nine and walking two more. The Cane Cutters finished with 14 hits.
The Rougarou (32-9) will host the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators Tuesday night at Pete Goldsby Field.
