A record crowd of 2,209 turned out to Pete Goldsby Field Friday night to watch the Baton Rouge Rougarou shut down the Acadiana Cane Cutters, 6-0.

Besides the fireworks show, those fans were treated to one of the best pitching performances of the season for the Rougarou.

Starting pitcher Larson Fabre and relievers Caleb Ougel and Carson Robb held Acadiana to four hits and one walk while striking out 16 on the way to the shutout. Fabre (3-2) pitched the first six innings, striking out 11.

There wasn’t much fire power in the Baton Rouge bats, however. The Rougarou finished with two hits – a 2-run home run by Dathan Cummings in the third inning, and a single by Trip Dobson in the bottom of the eighth. The rest of the Rougarou runs came with the help of 10 walks and a hit batter from Acadiana pitching.

That’s how Nick Adrian led off the bottom of the third to set up Cumming’s 2-run blast.

The Rougarou scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to four walks. Jack Marcantel drew a walk with bases loaded to score Taylor Walters. Ty Simonelli walked and later scored on a ground out by Jacob Keys.

Baton Rouge put up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Dobson led off with a single, Marcantel walked and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Keys then walked to load the bases. Dobson and Marcantel would score on wild pitches.

Both teams travel back to Youngsville for a Saturday night matchup at 7 p.m. at Fabacher Field, then both return to Baton Rouge on Sunday.
