The Baton Rouge Rougarou continued its comeback ways Saturday night, scoring five runs in the top of the 10th inning, then holding off the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators for a 9-7 win at Joe Miller Park in Lake Charles.
The win improved the Rougarou, who have already clinched the Texas Collegiate League first half Louisiana division championship, to 19-3. They will close out the first half schedule Sunday against the Gators.
The Rougarou actually had to rally three times in the game, overtaking the Gators with two runs in the third inning and two runs in the fifth before the final comeback in the final frame.
The I-10 rivals were all knotted up at 4-4 at the end of the ninth after the Gators scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Rougarou were paced with five extra base hits, including a home run by Ben Robichaux, who went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, and doubles by Robichaux, Josh Shelly, Sutton Lewis and Grant Sawa.
Rougarou pitching held the Gators to seven hits, walked six and struck out 12. Starter Trent Jordan pitched five innings, allowing six hits, walking one and striking out six. Jared Adams picked up the win.
