The Baton Rouge Rougarou played possum for a while Tuesday night in Pete Goldsby Field, but they found a second life late – really late – to take a 14-9 victory over the San Antonio River Monsters.
Thanks to a nearly 90-minute rain delay courtesy of Tropical Storm Bertha, Tuesday night’s game didn’t end until well after midnight. That was enough time for the Rougarou to score 14 runs on nine hits with the help of 14 walks. Baton Rouge put together two 6-run innings, batting around in both the sixth and the seventh.
Trip Dobson went 2-for-6 including a 3-run double to finish with four RBIs. Jacob Keys also had a pair of hits, including a double. Dathan Cummings and Ty Simonelli had three RBIs each. Nicolas Schwing had two RBIs.
The River Monsters finished with eight hits, including three doubles, off of five Rougarou pitchers who walked five and struck out 12. Closer Tanner Nguyen pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit or a walk and struck out two.
The River Monsters led 7-2 before the Rougarou put together its first rally in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Jesse Lord walked, Jacob Keys singled, Jack Marcantel walked, then Nick Adiran singled to score one run. Bryson Jones walked to score Keys. Dathan Cummings walked to score Adrian. Simonelli singled to score Jones and tie the game at 7-7, then Dobson singled to score Schwing to give the Rougarou an 8-7 lead.
San Antonio regained the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Rougarou rallied again in the bottom of the frame. Marcantel led off with a single. Adrian walked and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jones walked to load the bases and Schwing walked to score Marcantel. Cummings walked to score Adrian. Simonelli walked to score Jones, then Dobson doubled to clear the bases and put the Rougarou ahead 14-9.
The Rougarou will host San Antonio again Wednesday night in the final home game of the 2026 season.
