The Baton Rouge Rougarou notched their second straight win and their second straight shutout, taking a 14-0 victory over the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators Wednesday night at Pete Goldsby Field. All three games in the Texas Collegiate League were won by shutouts.
The Rougarou knocked 11 hits off of four Lake Charles pitchers and got help from seven walks, one hit batter and three errors. Every Rougarou batter in the starting lineup reached base at least once, and all but two had hits.
After a slowish start, Baton Rouge scored one run in the third inning, then batted around to score eight runs in the sixth inning, and again in the seventh for five more runs.
Once again, Josh Shelly led the way, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. He and Sebastian Huerta hit doubles. Casey Artigues and Dalton Wilson both had two hits. Blaise Priester, Huerta and Matt Keller had two RBIs.
Patrick Vienne got the start on the mound and picked up the win. He threw five innings, giving up four hits, walking none and striking out three. Garrett Hill, Thomas Collins and Ira Austin preserved the shutout, allowing just one hit, walking one and striking out six.
The Rougarou are set to host the Seguin River Monsters Thursday night and Friday night at Pete Goldsby Field.
