The Baton Rouge Rougarou continued to roll through the final week of the Texas Collegiate League regular season schedule, taking a 14-3 win over the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators Wednesday night at Joe Miller Park in Lake Charles.
It was the Rougarou's eighth win in a row and their 34th victory of the season. Both teams will return to Pete Goldsby Field Thursday night for a 7 p.m. contest.
The Rougarou toyed with a Gators in the early innings, finally breaking a scoreless tie with five runs in the fifth. They added three runs in the seventh, two in the eighth and four in the ninth. Lake Charles got solo runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.
Baton Rouge knocked 11 hits off of three Lake Charles pitchers, including doubles by Shelly (his 13th), Walters (seventh), and Dalton Wilson (third).
Wilson went 3-for-4 on the night with an RBI and two runs scored. Casey Artigues had two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Blaise Priester had two hits, an RBI and scored a run. Taylor Walters had two hits, three RBIs and scored a run. Byron Robinson Jr. scored two runs. Bennett Clement scored three runs.
The Gators scored two earned runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Patrick Vienne threw five innings, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out four. Tobin Moran and Thomas Collins pitched in relief, allowing five hits, walking three and striking out three.
