The Sherman Shadowcats made their first ever trip to Pete Goldsby Field a memorable one Saturday night, scoring two runs in the 10th inning to take a 6-4 victory over the Baton Rouge Rougarou. The Shadowcats, one of the new teams in the Texas Collegiate League, is now 3-0 over Baton Rouge this season.
The Rougarou certainly had their chances. Dathan Cummings led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second, went to third on an error, and scored on a ground out by Trip Dobson.
After Sherman tied the game in the top of the second, Jesse Lord put the Rougarou ahead 2-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
Baton Rouge led 2-1 until the sixth inning when Sherman scored three runs in the top to go up 4-2. The Rougarou scored two runs in the bottom of the frame. Taylor Walter started with a leadoff walk then scored on a double by Dobson. Dobson scored on a single by Spencer Guilbeau to tie the game at 4-4.
The Rougarou left one runner on base in the seventh and left bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.
Sherman then scored two runs in the 10th.
The loss dropped the Rougarou to 17-21 on the season, 7-9 in the second half, putting them 4.5 games out of first place. Sherman is 11-12 on the season, in last place.
The two teams will meet for the final time Sunday at 7 p.m. at Pete Goldsby Field.
